Hong Kong Lounge II was a cherished established in the Richmond District of San Francisco but sadly was destroyed by a fire several years ago. Many years later they’ve reopened a new restaurant in the SOMA District!
HK Lounge Bistro is a much smaller restaurant compared to their previous spot but has all the same delicious menu items as before.

Roast Duck, Chive, and Peanut Dumplings (7.5/10).
When we saw this on the menu, we were both intrigued as we don’t typically see roast duck inside dumplings especially with peanuts. While it was tasty, I wanted more duck filling as I felt like the duck flavor wasn’t as strong as I would have liked.

Pan Fried Shrimp and Chive Dumplings (8.5-9/10).
I love pan fried shrimp and chive dumplings and my favorite dim sum restaurant doesn’t have these. From the chewy wrapper with a crisp top and the plump flavorful shrimp, these are not to be missed.

Glazed Coffee Baby Back Pork Ribs (7.5/10).
The baby back pork ribs is one of their specialities which I found interesting as coffee isn’t a typical Chinese ingredient. I enjoyed the dark robust flavors from the glaze but would have liked the meat to be just slightly more tender. The whipped cream on the side was a quirky addition.

Accidental Gift: Salt and Pepper Crab (8.5/10).
We actually ordered the salt and pepper calamari but our waitress got confused and mixed up the order. She was kind enough to let us have the crab as well and we actually ended up loving it more than the calamari!

Beef Ribeye Chow Fun (8/10).
Another signature dish is their chow fun with slices of beef ribeye, bean sprouts, and scallions. I rarely eat these types of noodles so it nice to try something different.

Honey Walnut Prawns (7.5/10).
Of course Tommaso wanted to get honey walnut prawns, one of his favorite Chinese dishes. While this was scrumptious, I wanted the mayonnaise mixture to be thicker so it could cling better to the prawns.

Salt and Pepper Calamari (7.5-8/10).
The salt and pepper calamari finally arrived! Served with sweet and spicy sauce, this was good but I still love the salt and pepper calamari from Great China more.

Dry Fried String Beans in XO Sauce (8/10).
I guess we need to balance out all the carbs with some greens right?! Dry fried string beans are always a crowd pleaser.
Service was attentive and friendly and we enjoyed all the dishes at HK Lounge Bistro. I would like to come back with a larger group since a lot of the dishes are large portions. My overall rating is a 7.5-8/10.
