One of my childhood favorite Food Network stars has had his restaurant in San Francisco for almost a decade.
Tyler Florence opened Wayfare Tavern in 2010 but I had never visited…mind blowing! Even though the restaurant isn’t new, it was completely packed on a Monday night. The cuisine reflects Tyler’s style of comfort home cooking using seasonal and local ingredients.

Complimentary Popover (8/10).
Complimentary popovers were a fun touch instead of traditional bread. Warm, fluffy, and delicious with butter.

Heirloom Tomato Salad with Watermelon, Persian Cucumber, Lemon Ricotta, and Toasted Lavash (8/10).
A refreshing medley of juicy summer heirloom tomatoes with crunchy Persian cucumber and creamy lemon Ricotta cheese. The lavash added a nice toasted flavor as well as a good crunch.

Brentwood Corn Soup with Shrimp Rangoon and Grilled Scallion (8/10).
Summer screams corn and this velvety soup was great with an intense sweet corn flavor. The shrimp rangoon in the center was crispy but the shrimp flavor was slightly lost.

Burrata Toast with Castroville Artichokes, Prosciutto di Parma, and Navel Orange Jam (8/10).
Anything toast is right up my alley. Burrata cheese was smeared on toasted country bread with salty Prosciutto di Parma, sweet sticky navel orange jam, and marinated artichokes.

Organic Fried Chicken (8.5/10).
Food and Wine Magazine named their chicken one of the best and I’d have to say it was finger lickin’ good. The buttermilk brined chicken was juicy and moist with an incredibly golden crispy crust and simple garnished with garlic, thyme, and fresh lemon. So good.

Burrata Whipped Potatoes with Chives (8/10).
Luscious creamy whipped potatoes were the perfect compliment for the fried chicken.

Peach Cobbler with Walnut Crumble and Honey Ice Cream (7/10).
I love any type of fruit cobblers but this needed some work. The ratio of fruit to crumble was off where there was barely any crumble. The flavors were solid but I missed that delicious crunchy crumble with the soft sweet fruit.

Brownie Sundae with Vanilla Ice Cream and Valrhona Fudge Brownie (7.5/10).
A solid sundae but the brownie pieces were slightly too large where it made it difficult to enjoy all the various components together.
I enjoyed my dinner at Wayfare Tavern as all the food was really tasty and comforting. Nothing was revolutionary but the majority of the dishes hit the spot. If you go, definitely get the fried chicken because it was easily the highlight. Service was friendly yet a little slow since the restaurant was fully packed. Overall my rating is a 7.5-8/10.
