If you haven’t already guessed by now, I love sweets and Rainbow Donuts has been on my list for awhile.
Located in Berkeley, this donut shop has a plethora of donuts ranging from classic traditional flavors to fun eclectic flavors as well as bagels and breakfast sandwiches. Some of their more quirky flavors included rainbow explosion, unicorn (no idea what flavor profile this is), fruity pebbles, captain crunch, M&M’s, oreo, s’more, pb&j, green tea, horchata, red velvet, and ube.
I wanted to get a good selection of raised and cake donuts with a mixture of classic and fun flavors.
Somehow I totally forgot to order an old fashioned which is one of my favorite types of donuts! Once I realized this when I got back to my car, I was very disappointed in myself. Rookie mistake. I also wanted to try their glazed cinnamon roll as it looked delicious but it was even larger than the apple fritter so I skipped it (will have to get it next time). Some of my favorites were the apple fritter (always a classic); green tea donut (had a nice green tea flavor without being overpowering); nutella brioche donut (a little denser with a nutella filling and sugar coating); blueberry cake donut (had blueberry glaze as well); and red velvet cake donut. The only two that weren’t my favorite were the lemon jelly filled donut (lemon had a strange artificial flavor whereas the raspberry jelly donut was very tasty) and the crème brûlée donut (not nearly enough custard inside). Overall the donuts were yummy and fresh and I loved their wide range of selection so my rating is an 8/10.
