Review: Chubby Noodle.

Over the weekend my friend invited me to Saturday brunch in the Marina District in San Francisco.

Chubby Noodle has two locations, one in North Beach and the other in the Marina. For brunch they offer a small all you can eat and drink menu over 90 minutes for $37/person. Since the menu is small, we were able to try the majority of the dishes and they offer four types of drinks that are included in the meal. That day the drinks included Sapporo beer, cantaloupe mimosa, cranberry elderflower sangria, and a sake mint tea. They also had wine and sake but those drinks weren’t included in the all you can eat price.

Salt and Pepper Shrimp (8/10).

Pork and Shrimp Wontons with Ginger and Scallions (8/10).

Chinese BBQ Chicken Dumplings (7/10).

Shrimp Dumplings (7/10).

Chow Mein with Chicken and Vegetables (7.5/10).

Kung Pao Chicken Wings (7.5/10).

Peking Duck with Hoisin Sauce served with Steam Buns (7/10).

Chilled Ramen with Fried Egg, Pickles, and Kimchi (6/10).

Garlic Green Beans (8/10).

Rice Cakes in XO Sauce (7/10).

People in San Francisco take weekend brunch very seriously. Since it was a Saturday the restaurant was packed (also because it’s tiny), mostly with young people. The food isn’t the best Chinese food but it’s a great place to come with a group of friends for the price. The food was constantly coming out and our drinks were always filled. Some of the highlights of the brunch were the salt and pepper shrimp, the wontons, chow mein, and the chicken wings. The salt and pepper shrimp were lightly battered and fried served with a sweet pepper aioli. Yummy! The pork and shrimp wontons were very flavorful tossed in soy sauce, crunchy fried ginger, and scallions. These were my favorite of all the dumplings. The chow mein was extremely simple with chicken and vegetables but was satisfying. Lastly, the chicken wings were sticky and spicy with caramelized onions. Finger lickin’ good. Service was also great especially since the restaurant was slightly hectic.

I had a good time at Chubby Noodle so my rating is a 7-7.5/10.
