Naples.

First stop on our 2-week road trip was to Naples, the home of Neapolitan pizza.

I haven’t been to Naples since 2012 with my roommate when we literally went to just eat pizza and walk around the city center and this time was no different. Actually, this time we just ate pizza! Back in 2012, we went to the iconic  L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele where the famous scene of Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love was filmed. Since I had already been there, I wanted to try another famous pizza place for lunch called 50 Kalò di Circo Salvo. I had a handful of pizza places that I wanted to try (Pizzeria di Matteo, La Notizia, Pizzeria Starita, and Gino Sorbillo) so choosing a place was difficult since all of these looked great.

50 Kalò di Circo Salvo doesn’t take reservations but we got there right when they opened.

Their menu is very straight forward with just a few fried appetizers, fried pizzas, and over 20 options of Neapolitan style pizzas.

Margherita con Bufala Pizza.

As a baseline, we had to try their margherita pizza with tomato, Mozzarella di Bufala, olive oil, and basil. Look at that beautiful pillowy crust!

Del Monaco DOP Pizza.

The del monaco DOP had tomato, Fior di Latte, thin strands of salame irpino, Provolone del Monaco DOP, and olive oil. Absolutely mouthwatering.

After our quick lunch we were off to our next destination where we could see Mount Vesuvius, a still active volcano, in the distance.
