SLO, the Happiest City in America.

This past weekend Tommaso and I headed down the coast of California to San Luis Obispo, my college town! I lived in this quaint city for four years (2007-2011) while I studied at California Polytechnic State University. Not only was I excited to visit my old college town but some of my closest friends were also staying there for the long weekend! What an awesome weekend filled with fun and laughter with old friends.

On our drive down to San Luis Obispo, Tommy and I stopped at In-N-Out Burger, an absolute must!

Once we arrived in SLO, we walked to Cal Poly’s campus and took a short hike up to the “P”!

After our hike, Tommaso and I had dinner at Splash Café to enjoy one of my ultimate favorite foods, New England clam chowder. Creamy rich soup with chunks of potatoes and tender little clams in a buttered sourdough bread bowl, can’t go wrong with that!

The next day, my friends and I headed to Edna Valley to visit Baileyana Winery for a relaxing afternoon at their tasting room. I couldn’t believe the beautiful sunny weather in February, I guess it is California after all! Baileyana Winery’s tasting room is about a 10-15 minute drive from San Luis Obispo and is surrounded by gorgeous rolling hills and vineyards. The winery produces mostly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines and a few sparkling wines.

Our last full day in San Luis Obispo, we headed to Shell Beach for another relaxing day, basking in the sun. It wasn’t as warm as the previous day but I managed to still get a slight tan, yessss!

Now you can’t go to San Luis Obispo without making a stop at Firestone Grill for their famous tri-tip sandwich, bbq items, and burgers. If it’s your first time going, you have to order the tri-tip sandwich; tender meaty goodness served on a bun with sweet and addictive bbq sauce.

Before driving back to the Bay Area, Tommy and I walked around downtown San Luis Obispo.

After walking around downtown SLO, we stopped by my favorite “hole in the wall” restaurant, Noi’s Little Thai Takeout in Los Osos serving delicious and fresh thai food.

San Luis Obispo was the perfect weekend getaway and spending it with old friends was even better! It was amazing to visit my old college town and to reminisce about the good ol’ days of college life with my friends and to show Tommaso my old stomping grounds. Hopefully I’ll be able to visit again in the near future!
