Review: Mission Pie.

What’s more American than a classic dessert such as pie?!

Mission Pie in the Mission District has been around for 10 years and it’s still going strong! It’s been on my “to go” list for a few of years now since an old coworker used to work there. Of course they serve various seasonal flavored pies but it’s also a café with soups, salads, quiche, pot pies, pastries, and cookies. Since we already had lunch, we were just looking for something to satisfy our sweet tooth.

We decided to try three different slices of pie to share. You can also add whipped cream or ice cream to your pie slice; we opted for a dollop of whipped cream on each.

Peach and Blackberry Pie (8.5/10).

This was my personal favorite pie that I tried at Mission Pie. The beautiful orange yellow peaches were juicy and moist mixed with slightly tart blackberries with an oatmeal crumble on top. It definitely reminded me of cobbler which I adore. I could have easily eaten two slices of this!

Walnut Pie (8.5/10).

I’m not crazy about nuts in desserts (I typically like more savory dishes with nuts) but this was delicious. The nuts were almost caramelized on the top and had a gooey brown sugar filling inside that complimented the walnuts.

Apple Pie (7/10).

Since apple pie is such an American classic, I wanted to try it but it was my least favorite out of the three. The crust on the bottom was slightly underdone and the apples were a little on the mushy side. Compared to the other two pies we tried, this needed more love and flavor.

I really enjoyed Mission Pie and it’s awesome that they’re still doing great after being open for a decade. Prices were slightly on the higher side and the slices of pie weren’t necessarily as big as I would have liked (maybe I’m just being a fatty 😛 ). I would definitely go back to sample some of their other flavors so my rating is an 8/10.
