Sushi Ran has been known as one of the top sushi places in the Bay Area for over a decade now. Since it’s located in Sausalito, it’s a great place if you’re looking to get out of the city.
Since Sushi Ran is located a bit out of the way, I decided to go for lunch to see if their sushi is up to par compared to top sushi restaurants in San Francisco.

Toro/Fatty Tuna Nigiri (9/10), Bincho Maguro/White Tuna Nigiri (7/10), Hamachi/Yellowtail Nigiri (7.5/10), Sake/Salmon Nigiri (8/10), and Maguro/Tuna Nigiri (8/10).

Umi Masu/Ocean Trout Nigiri (8/10), Hotate/Scallop Nigiri (8/10), Ikura/Salmon Roe Nigiri (8/10), Tobiko/Flying Fish Roe Nigiri (7/10), and Uni/Sea Urchin Nigiri (7/10).
I had a pretty solid meal at Sushi Ran but I wasn’t wowed by any of the nigiri sushi. Perhaps my expectations were a bit too high so I was slightly disappointed with the quality of nigiri sushi. Kusakabe and Akiko’s Restaurant in San Francisco are still my favorite places for some of the best sushi in the Bay Area. However, if you do find yourself at Sushi Ran you must order the crispy potatoes dusted with nori and scallions, really addicting.
Overall I’d rate Sushi Ran at a 7.5/10.
