The Food Truck Craze.

Food trucks are the current craze. Everywhere you go, there are new food trucks popping up. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, you’ve probably heard about Off the Grid in which different food trucks rotate each day in various venues across the Bay Area. However, Off the Grid also has some permanent locations in San Francisco such as at Fort Mason every Friday night and the Presidio every Sunday. Another smaller food truck venue is SOMA StrEat Food Park located on 11th Street in San Francisco where different vendors appear everyday.

This past Sunday, I visited Off the Grid’s Presidio venue, which was packed as the day was gorgeously breathtaking.

The choices of food trucks/tents were overwhelming to say the least. We ended up trying food at one of the tents serving bbq food. We all ordered the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw which was tasty (I unfortunately don’t have a picture). I would have liked to try more of the tents and food trucks but there were just too many people in line.

Yesterday, Tommy and I went to the SOMA StrEat Food Park, which is open every day for lunch and dinner. Since it was a weekday, it was much calmer than the Sunday Presidio venue and therefore much easier to view each food truck’s offerings. Everyday on their website, they announce which vendors will be at the location. Yesterday’s food trucks included Astronaut Cafe, Bacon Bacon, Caribbean Spices, Firetrail Pizza, France Delices, Kaböb Trölley, Lil’ Burma, Oui Chef, and Tacos El Tuca (here you can see a list of vendors that could be at the park).

We decided to try food from France Delices and the Bacon Bacon food truck.

We really enjoyed SOMA StrEat Food Park more than Off the Grid since it was a smaller, less crowded venue. Overall, our food was really tasty. The duck sausage, flavored with figs and brandy, was deliciously served with caramelized onions and spicy Dijon mustard on a soft yet crusty baguette. The bacon crusted fried chicken sandwich with crunchy slices of bacon topped with spicy coleslaw and bacon mayonnaise was richly satisfying. The porky fries were my favorite items of the day featuring tender flavorful shredded pork, crunchy pieces of bacon, spicy peppers, and grated cheese all on top of golden fries. Decadently yummy! I will definitely return to SOMA StrEat Food Park to sample other luscious offerings!

You need to stop by The Hall in Mid-Market before you leave! I think there’s also a new gourmet-y food emporium at the Twitter building–not sure if it has opened yet.
