After my weekend trip in Milan, Tommaso and I spent the holidays in Rome with his family. We had planned a trip to go to Amsterdam to bring in the New Year of 2014. This would be both of our second visit to this awesome city. Amsterdam has so much to offer from museums, the red light district, clubs and bars, coffee shops, and great restaurants.
Our first night we enjoyed dinner at Ron Gastrobar, a one Michelin star restaurant slightly outside from the city center.
Tommy and I loved this restaurant so we’d rate it at a 7.5-8/10. First of all, it was a nice change from all the Italian food we are used to eating. We truly appreciated the creativity of the dishes such as the langoustine and the BBQ cabbage. The langoustine with pumpkin and curry was delicious and the puffed rice was a technique I had never seen before. The BBQ cabbage with bone marrow and oyster emulsion sounded like such a strange combination of flavors but somehow was harmonious. I would definitely recommend Ron Gastrobar for true foodies!
For New Years Eve, we ate at a great Indonesian restaurant called Blue Pepper. What I love about Amsterdam, compared to most cities in Italy, is that they have amazing asian food! In Italy finding good ethnic food is almost impossible! I was shocked to see so many Chinese, Thai, and Indonesian restaurants when I visited there. Overall, I’d rate Blue Pepper at a 7/10.
Every time I go to Amsterdam I just don’t want to leave! All the people there are so friendly and pretty much everyone speaks english. The city itself is beautiful and welcoming. I can totally imagine myself living there one day….hey, I can dream right?
